Multisport – Kayak 10k / Mtn Bike 30k / Mtn Run 18k
Course Maps - Kayak / Mtn Bike / Mtn Run
Course Descrptions - Kayak / Mtn Bike / Mtn Run
The Multisport event has categories for both individuals and 2-3 person teams.
Multisports kick off from Whitireia Boat Ramp with the 10k kayak section up Porirua Harbour, across the mouth and under Paratamata Bridge into Pauatahanui Inlet, and then back to Whitireia. It's a scenic and serene route, but with the odd sea breeze, sand bank, tidal eddies and harbour swells, you need your wits about you.
Multisporters then continue into the 30km Mountain Bike section. The course follows a myriad of hidden trails around Porirua with approx 800m of climbing and a full compliment of terrain from purpose built single-track to farmland, forests, ridge tops and cycle paths. It’s starts with a loop in Takapuwahia Reserve (Ngati Toa land) with some climbing, single-track and sweet sweeping downhill and a couple of hairy moments for good measure. Then you pass back through HQ again before following cycle paths to the awesome single-track networks on Colonial Knob/Rangituhi. There’s a big climb to the top, and then more single-track back down to transition.
Multisporters then finish with a spectacular 18km Mountain Run over a mix of native bush tracks, private farm lands and hidden coastal beaches with views over Porirua and Cook Strait. But with 900m of climbing this run is as challenging as it is spectacular. It starts from HQ and runs through Porirua Scenic Reserve and up Colonial Knob where you hop the fence into the private Pikarere Farm and head down to the remote western coast and back over Takapuwahia Reserve to finish at HQ. There is just ONE drink station on the Mountain Run – at approximately the 2/3 point on Pikarere Station.

About Us
Established in 2006, the Porirua Grand Traverse is a non-profit community event organised locally by the Porirua Grand Traverse charitable trust. Our goals with this event have not changed since day one...
All Ages: We're about participation for everyone from retirees to kids!
All Abilities: Options for rookies to experienced endurance junkies!
All Amazing: Showcasing Porirua's hills & harbour, bush & beaches!
The Porirua Grand Traverse benefits Porirua both altruistically and economically. As well as a fun day out, it promotes a healthy, outdoor lifestyle. Economically, it brings visitors to the City, uses local service providers, and provides donations to local community groups.
